The human roller skate
October 25, 2007 Dicker, YouTube 1 CommentCheck out this guy!
What’s even more impressive is that he does this in traffic! He even overtakes a motorbike! That would have seriously freaked out the bike rider…
Rain!
October 25, 2007 Chris, General No CommentsIt’s finally raining a little out here!!
I’ve been sitting in my office watching people walk by, I haven’t seen one person run to get out of it, everyone’s walking as if were a sunny day. Most people aren’t wearing any protection against the rain and some are even carrying umbrella’s, but none have them up!
I think everyone’s just happy to see it!
More Japanese ingenuity
October 23, 2007 General, Peter 1 CommentBecause they actually had some street crime in their country for the first time in living memory, the Japanese panicked, and this is what one of them came up with:
I love that lateral thinking…
Got the sick!
October 20, 2007 Chris, General 1 CommentI’ve had the sick for about 2 days now. Not that fun, although I have caught up on so much sleep! And I love the way you don’t have to feel like I have to be doing anything, which is a nice rest.
So a couple of highlights:
1) I’m not one to throw up all that often, and I was amazed! I couldn’t believe the flow rate you can get, after an intial couple of soft throws I did these 2 that were just outstanding. It’s just like on the cartooons and in the movies. You get this stream happening which is as wide as your mouth and I reckon I could have filled a 500ml glass in a second. I was definately keeping my eyes open for those.
I don’t know if you’re getting me here, but it’s just like turning a fire hydrant on and watching the pressure of the water burst forth.
2) I lost 2kgs in 2 days! Normally not a great thing, but in the present climate of me trying to lose weight… I’ll take it.
Look what my church did!
October 19, 2007 Dicker, General No CommentsPetersham Evening Church (who run a evening service in our church building at Petersham funily enough…) are a creative bunch of people. They come up with all sorts of wacky ideas…
So when they came up with the idea of making a 3 massive banners to go up around our church to coincide with the new poster they put out for the month of October, my small minded thinking made me think this probably not going to work… and if it had been left up to my decision it probably wouldn’t have happened. But God bless the creative open mindedness of the FEVA/PEC crew! It happened and it looks great!
Just to give you an idea of what we’re talking about here…
The big Ballot paper is about 3.5 x 5 metres, and hangs about 8m up from the ground.
The big banner on the roof is about 30 x 3 metres.
The Banner out the front is about 20 x 1.5 metres.
And there is also a set of polling booths that were made and set up on our lawn.
It was a big effort to get it all up. The big ballot was my special project but at least I wasn’t one of the people who spent 3-4 days making it all…
The next challenge now is to see if it all holds in the wind… mmmm.
iced coffee
October 17, 2007 Dicker, General, recipes 1 CommentI judge a cafe by it’s iced coffee.
I mean, atmosphere, service, food quality is all important but the real test is the iced coffee… You make a good iced coffee Ill be coming back for more. What I mean by good is good strong coffee flavour (real coffee not syrup, yuk!), and a cold tempreture, I think that’s not too much to ask, yet so many cafes pour luke warm milk into a glass with some whipped cream and call it iced coffee - $4.50… I don’t think so.
Often at college I crave an iced coffee. There are some cafes kinda near by (like 5 minute drive) but I ride a motor bike and don’t have any cup holders… so I have managed to create the perfect iced coffee with what’s available to me at college, and here it is (works at home too):
Get a tall glass and add about 2 teaspoons of instant (you know blend 43 or something - not industrial roast).
Add half a teaspoon of sugar. Pour in a small amount of boiling water (like 1/10 of the glass size). Stir the coffee and sugar til disolved.
Add a couple of generous scoops of vanilla ice cream to the hot coffee mix. Let the ice cream cool down the coffee.
Add milk and give a light stir.
Hey Presto!! Ice coffee in an instant that’s not too bad.
It’ll most definately be better than half of the luke warm cups of crap that you get for $4.50 from some Sydney cafes.
I’m not very bright sometimes…
October 14, 2007 General, Peter No CommentsI’ve really managed to get poor-time-use down to an artform lately. I spend hours trawling through wikipedia after I venture warily onto the site to find out some basically useless information about a footballer or something, before I’m dragged into the vortex of clicking on articles about battleships, theological principles, and video games.
Sometimes I have so many tabs open in my browser that I’m left squinting around trying to find the original item that I actually wanted to know about, and then I manage to convince myself that reading through all of those useless articles was some sort of acheivement, so I reward myself with another trip to the kitchen to make a cup of tea or something.
Damn it, I just want to finish my essays (almost there, so close I can smell it… or at least I can smell something). I’ve written more words in dumb emails today than I needed for my assignment, but for some reason they’ve all been so much easier to write.
My iPod informs me that I’ve run out of Rolling Stones songs to listen to, so I’m giving it the chance to choose my next hour’s worth of music randomly… ooooh, The Kooks!
(back to writing something that I’m meant to be writing)
Just do it already…
October 12, 2007 General, Peter 3 CommentsI’m looking out of my window, and it looks like it’s about to rain, but it hasn’t yet.
For some reason it’s annoying me, like when you’re about to sneeze, but it doesn’t come, so you just stand there looking (and feeling) ridiculous with your nose up in the air and your eyes half closed.
Of course, what I should be doing is writing two short essays.
I might go and make a quick cup of tea.
